So, we´re here at „the other house 8“ and right here is the entrance to what used to be a prison in the DDR-times and let´s go and check it out.
How does the past kind of influence the now of this location?
For us the past was very important. When we saw the house for the first time, we started immediately to read about the story of this house and of the area.We took the house as it was and our aim is to integrate the past into the present.
Ehm, so what are the major differences between the Nazi-times and the DDR-times?
I don´t know, if there has been so many differences, because in both systems it was for people who didn´t agree with the system. Everybody who didn´t agree with the system, with the Nazi-system or with the DDR-system, they all came here.
Okay, now we are here in the room, which is called „Kneipe“. It´s for the guests who want to have a glas of beer or a glas of wine at the end of their day.
And afterwards there is a possibility to have a little kitchen. Some people can cook here, if they want to. Now we go upstairs to the rooms, to the former cells.
I like at the yellow one that you have the beautiful view to the Spree, to the „Rummelsburger Bucht“ and you have the bed like this, so, when you awake, you can see outside.
And here is the bathing room. The prisoners could have a shower once a week and it was in community and now every cell has its own bathroom.
You can lodge here and you can, ehm, you get the history for free.
